Obtenida la media sanción en la Cámara de Diputados, hoy se debate en el Plenario de Comisiones del Senado de la Nación
El senador nacional Edgardo Kueider comunicó a través de sus redes sociales su acompañamiento al proyecto de Ley de Fibrosis Quística de páncreas que se debatirá hoy en el Senado, donde se busca declarar de interés nacional la lucha contra la enfermedad. «El proyecto propone incluir en el programa médico obligatorio (PMO) de obras sociales y prepagas el tratamiento de los pacientes que padecen de fibrosis quística» explicó el representante entrerriano.
La Fibrosis Quística es una enfermedad genética multiorgánica que afecta al sistema respiratorio y digestivo. Los pacientes que la padecen presentan frecuentemente infección pulmonar crónica y dificultades nutricionales debido a su insuficiencia pancreática que conlleva a que las personas deban recibir un tratamiento continuo y de por vida.
La afectación del páncreas comienza desde la vida fetal entre las 28 y 32 semanas de gestación y, a su vez, numerosos estudios confirman que la función respiratoria se ve comprometida desde el nacimiento; lo que revela la importancia de la intervención terapéutica precoz a fin de evitar el deterioro de la función respiratoria, que, invariablemente aparece con el tiempo y es la responsable de la causa más frecuente de muerte en pacientes con fibrosis quística.
Según estadísticas de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), esta patología afecta a 1 de cada 2.500 nacidos vivos. En Argentina, alrededor de 400 niños nacen por año con esta enfermedad, pero no existen estadísticas oficiales en la materia, estimándose que esta enfermedad afecta a más de 8.000 personas en nuestro país, pudiendo ser muchas más las que la padecen dado que no todos los casos son detectados.
